by: Sylvia Jones

Campbell River, British Columbia: Many people from around the world visit this web site each week but among the most faithful visitors are former Tisdale people and their families. It seems to be a good way to see some pictures of their community. Sylvia Jones graduated from TUCS in the late 60s and she and many of her friends are planning a get together in Penticton in October 2011.

- The Greenwater report

Monday
December 13, 2010
by: Gerald Crawford

Saskatoon: Alas Doreen Crawford has reach her eightieth birthday and the Crawfords' family and friends were on hand Sunday to celebrate the occasion. Gerald gives us a run down on who was there and was able to get in a paragraph about the deep snow conditions at Greenwater Lake Provincial Park.

Of all the military fortifications I know of the most important one is the snow fort. Every kid with access to snow and space to develop fortification becomes an architect working on one of the wonders of the world. Every Canadian kid considers with pride the snow forts he or she has built and the ones that might have been.(Click thumbnail to see full size.) |

- This past week in pictures
-
Saturday

by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Almost every day there is time for a drive around town or out into the surrounding countryside and of course that means an opportunity to capture the scenes. We have had a lot of cloudy and foggy weather this past week and these pictures show how the snow level is continuing to rise as the cover on the fields and yards is slowly building up. This set of 46 images are some of this week's collection.

The video of this incident is posted on YouTube and is very disturbing. A Sudenese woman is being punished by being publicly whippedd for having worn trousers under her Islamic clothing. This sort of thing is said to be a regular frequent occurance in Sudan. |

Tisdale: Tisdale's AAA midget hockey team pitched in to do their part this morning holding a charity breakfast in the RECPlex. Besides the fund raising breakfast they had a 50/50 draw and a quilt raffle. The whole team was on hand participating in the event.

- Narrowing the income gap in Canada
-
Thursday
December 9, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire
-
-
Tisdale: Canada's very wealthy are mostly CEOs and business executives each earning millions annually. Canada's poor are growing in numbers rapidly and their incomes shrinking while the middle class remains smaller but stagnant in income growth. This situation is not good for the country and it is not good for it's people, rich or poor.

- Postmedia newspaper apps for the iPad
-
Wednesday
December 8, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire
-
-
Tisdale: Saturday the company that has taken over most of Canada's newspapers from CanWest Global, Postmedia made their "apps" available across the country. The popularity of the iPad is a force to be reconed with as more and more of these things are in the hands of people looking for uses for it.

- Frosty

Thursday
December 2, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire
-
-
Tisdale: Little amounts of snow have been drifting down from the sky each day and on Wednesday night there was fog which of course resulted in the usual coating of frost on the trees and fences. Since the wind was from the south the frost was most noticable on the south side of the trees. Almost all of the pictures in this group of twenty-eight are shown here in black and white.

by: Ken Jones

Halifax: Last year on December 1 Ensign posted a remarkable set of pictures from Halifax of autumn. This year's set of pictures is much smaller but the dramatic images are have just as much impact. The photos have been combined into a QuickTime movie and may take a little time to download.

- Political distaste
-
Tuesday
November 30, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire
-
-
Tisdale: This is a discussion about some unsettling trends in our Canadian society and in this story the point is made that we are slipping toward an unquestioning and unreasonable form of political reality. The introduction of a one sided news channel is a serious matter for this country and does not produce balance but rather heads us toward the abyss of one minded, one acceptable ideology for all.

- Parkland Photography Club meeting report for November
-
Wednesday
November 24, 2010
by: Darlene McCullough
-
-
Tisdale: The monthly meeting of the Parkland Photography Club took place on Tuesday night and this report gives you a snap shot of the clubs many activities. They are getting a slideshow together to be used at various senior citizens homes and the club members are getting ready for submissions to provincial competitions. The involvement in shows and competitions pushes each member to seek out the means to create better and better images.

Victoria, British Columbia: North Korea's unprovoked artillary attack on a South Korean island killed two soldiers and two civilians while pushing China and United States into a confrontation over their client states. This is serious stuff and there is a definite need for some cooling off before steps toward a war are taken.

Saskatoon: Gerald and Doreen enjoyed Sunday's game and were out to the theatre a couple of times. Looks like Greenwater Lake has not yet frozen over but it is getting there. Meanwhile the Crawfords are getting the miles in at the Field House.

- 1960 Chevrolet Impala
-
Friday
November 19, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire
-
-
Tisdale: Looking at this fifty year old car reminds us how conservative automotive design has become especially when you consider that the 1960 Chevrolet was considerably toned down from the over the top 1959 version. At the time the GM cars were all much less flamboyant than the Chrysler machines with their huge vertical fins, torsion bar suspension and push button transmissions.

Tisdale: Regular readers of this web site will have noticed that in the last two month we have reduced the number of weekly posts to two or sometimes only one a week. Two factors have contributed to this situation. The first is the editor's insatiable appetite for world news and the second is the remarkable tool for exploration of the world's media, the Apple iPad. There just isn't enough time to read it all and still get an Ensign issue posted.
