Remembering the future
Wednesday
November 10, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Each November we wear poppies on the left lapel of our jackets and the news media tells war stories and talks a lot about ultimate sacrifices. But Remembrance Day gets caught up in the attempt by everyone who thinks about it as we try to find a way to celebrate a part of life that really and truly is more about regret and incredible waste of lives. At the same time, we force ourselves to try to get a glimpse into the mindset of those who served.

Tim's Tip of the Day

Normal operating speed of the highway snow ploughs is 60 kph which poses a serious problem for traffic. As an emergency vehicle you can not pass or meet this vehicle legally when travelling above 60 kpm. So if you are behind one slow down back off and wait for it to slow to let you by safely. When meeting one as with other emergency vehicles the Saskatchewan speed limit is 60.(Click thumbnail to see full size.)

Find of the day

The power of silence
The Legion in the UK has published a piece of music that is utter silence. This is to commemorate Remembrance Day and in and of itself carries a powerful message. This BBC explains other examples of silence.
