Tim's Tip of the Day

Thinking about a flat big screen HDTV. Think again don't rely on a big box store saleman find yourself an independent expert before you put down heavy money for a product that might already be obsolete or you are unable to use its capability. This is a major purchase and the naked consumer needs expert help. (Click on thumb nail to see full size.)

Find of the day

More from Eyjafjallajokull
Normally we only list stories in this space that will be around for a while. In this case we do not know how long these dramatic images of the Icelandic volcano will remain on line. But despite that while they are available here is a good set of volcano images from Boston.Com.

Thursday
April 22, 2010
by: Michael Townsend

Northern Ireland: While much of Ireland's sea coast face the moderate and even balmy gulf stream current the wild and craggy Northeastern coast is a magnificient but challenging part of the island. Michael takes us to some of the major sites on this North coast with his account of the trip and a second page with 76 pictures to let us soak up the enchantment of the place.

Ladybug
Wednesday
April 21, 2010
Images by: Ken Jones

Near Craven: Trying to capture the delicate beauty of this year's crocuses Ken Jones had to deal with a persistent ladybug. He solved the problem by making the ladybug the subject of some of his pictures but despite a good deal of "shooowing" the bug stayed put in its investigation of the crocus flowers. The seven pictures are on the second page of the story.
A terrible beauty
Wednesday
April 21, 2010
by: Michael Townsend

Belfast, Northern Ireland: Trying to make sense of the horrors of the secterian violence of Northern Ireland is a formidable task. Michael Townsend tackles the problem and shows us the scenes and the way the protestants and catholics have commemorated that period in their recent history. His description of the place and sixty pictures are both moving and shocking.
Will Harper yield to parliament?
Wednesday
April 21, 2010
by: Eugene Parks

Victoria, British Columbia: There is a war of sorts going on in Ottawa between the House of Commons and the Prime Minister's office. The PMO has been increasing its power for decades but now it has reached almost regal proportions and it stems very much from the impotence of the House and its lack of backbone.

April 19, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

This story includes twelve pictures of some interesting items in the sale.

Technological crystal ball
Thursday
April 15, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: The future may seem like a scary place but like it or not we are going there. Today we peer into the possibilities and in some cases the certainties of what the people on this planet must come to expect in the next fifty years. To know the future we only have to look at the immediate past and today to realise that the trends are almost predetermined and we better get used to what is to come. Cell phones and personal portable computing devices are not a fad.

by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Last summer the large building that once was a car dealership and had housed several businesses, situated just north of the Credit Union was demolished and the area cleared but nothing happened until December when a very deep hole in the ground was dug to provide the base for a new expansion of the Credit Union. This story shows 70 pictures of what happened between December 17 and today as the project has come up from a hole in the ground.

Wednesday
April 7, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Though often take the sky and the scenes it presents for granted, each season has its own special sky signature and spring is by far the most spectacular. Here are night pictures of the spring sky over the last three days. Interestingly enough despite the foreboding nature of the images no rain fell on me from these skies seen in these picture

The Book of Kells and Trinity
Wednesday
March 31, 2010
by: Michael Townsend

Dublin, Ireland: The Irish quite rightly consider The Book of Kells as one of the most remarkable works in the world. The first four gospels of the New Testament created by three master craftsmen more than a thousand years ago is housed in the Dublin Trinity College Library. Michael went there to see it and this is his story.

Tuesday
March 30, 2010
by: Timothy W. Shire

Tisdale: Though the melting has been proceeding for a month the water has just been gradually moving along and the Doghide itself has up until today just been a wandering pond. That warm temperature last night and the fields and streams are now moving and the little Doghide river ceased being a pond and is a nice, well behaved river conducting the water through and beyond town staying within its banks.
Surprises of Ireland
Tuesday
March 30, 2010
by: Michael Townsend

Ireland: Palm trees in Killarney, Bikers in Belfast and a Belfast hockey rink. Ireland's charm is very much in the way it has continued to adapt to the world in which it finds itself. Ireland is one of the leading technological countries in Europe with computer technology, IT and aviation all melded into the complexities of a very modern society.
