One tree missing
Friday
July 18, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: It had an outstanding life and did its duty long past the time it should have passed on. With both of its stems showing external signs of degradation it was brought down today discovering that almost half of each trunk was rotted and a strong wind would bring it crashing down if it were not brought down safely today.

Tim's Tip of the Day

Kevin's find of the day

War of the Worlds - radio broadcast
With little warning that it was a dramatisation CBS broadcast Orson Wells doing the story of earth being invaded by Mars October 30th 1938. The broadcast caused panic as millions of listeners thought it was the real thing. Check out the broadcast at Soundboard or download it.

Happenings In Tisdale:

Air raids on wheat midge
Thursday
July 17, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Each morning as dawn arrives the sound of agricultural aircraft punctuates the calm as two warriors head out over the fields to do battle with the wheat midge the craws up the stem during the dark hours of the day to feast on the growing plant. There was a major campaign last year and right around Tisdale there is sufficient investation to launch this year's war on the pesky varmint.
The Greenwater report
Wednesday
July 16, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Lake Provincial Park: A week spent out at Greenwater having coffee and visiting with old friends and family. The highlight of the week was meeting Logan, now a full month old, great grandson.
House eighteen gets a main floor
Wednesday
July 16, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: House construction continue to boom ahead with twenty housing starts so far. This proejct on Forester is one of nine on the block being built or nearing completion.
the food - fuel fight
Wednesday
July 9, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: In the history of Saskatchewan the grain producers have always had to deal with the short end of the stick. Now fuel prices have risen to the point that synthetic fuels are economically viable and society suddenly realises if we use agricultural products for fuel, food prices will rise dramatically.
Weekes roofing project
Tuesday
July 8, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Weekes: The roof of the Weekes Community Centre was shingled in 1974 or 75 and has done well to last all these years but it is time for it to be replaced, so in typical Weekes fashion a scheme was hatched to pay for a big project in a really little village.
Let the debate begin!
Tuesday
July 8, 2008
by: Eugene Parks
Victoria B.C.: Recognising that a carbon tax is a complex issue the government merely launched name calling attack ads to dismiss the issue. But not all Canadians are from Alberta and we deserve an intelligent and thoughtful discussion of the concept which has already been implimented in Quebec, Ontario and B.C. A serious discussion needs to take place and the attack ads need to be a little more restrained.
Connaught Fair
Monday
July 7, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The whole concept of agricultural fairs is remarkable as the whole process contributes so much to the development of animal husbandry, agricultural inniatives and the whole way of life associated with the family farm.
The Greenwater report
Monday
July 7, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Saskatoon: A week in Saskatoon to reorganise before setting off on another adventure this week, the Crawfords bring us a fishing story from Greenwater and a visit to Saskatoon's new gambling facility.
Basement for house seventeen gets floor
Friday
July 4, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Farber Construction is well on the way to getting the most northerly house in Tisdale underway. House 17 of this year is on the north end of NewMarket.
1928 Ford Coupe Model "A" convertible with rumble seat
Thursday
July 3, 2008
by: Ken Styan
Tisdale: Just imagine owning the same car for sixty-four years and having paid $150 for it in the first place, now that's an achievement!
House sixteen ready for walls
Thursday
July 3, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: A sturdy steel structure has been produced to hold a roof for the stage area in Tisdale's Centennial Square. Produced by Northern Steel Industries the project was installed in place Saturday, June 28th.
The Greenwater report
Monday
June 30, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Saskatoon: The Crawfords wrapped up their visit to t he Dakotas with a few days in the Mandan and Minot area with some great pictures to share with us but they are back home in Saskatoon in time for Canada Day.
A roof for the Centennial Square stage
Monday
June 30, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: A sturdy steel structure has been produced to hold a roof for the stage area in Tisdale's Centennial Square. Produced by Northern Steel Industries the project was installed in place Saturday, June 28th.
Ludicrous 'litmus test'!
Monday
June 30, 2008
by: Joe Hueglin
Niagara Falls: Canada's government is terrified of the United States to the point of refusing to assist a 15 year caught up in the war in Afghanistan. He has been tortured and held at Guantanamo for six years after being nearly killed by US forces and the Americans want to try him on a trumped up murder charge before a military court.
Candle Lake's Blue Ridge Subdivision
Friday
June 27, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Not on is the heat on housing in Saskatchewan towns , villages and cities but there is a growing demand for properties at resort locations as people want a second home at a resort. Here is one such development.
This year's high school harvest
Thursday
June 26, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Today is graduation day in Tisdale as we have reached the end of the school there have been and will be graduations all over Saskatchewan and there will be the usual cliches and speeches compliments of achievement and above all a feeling of expectation. I haven't a single doubt that this year's crop will not be up to the challenges facing them but what we all have to understand its not up to them, we are all in this together.
House fifteen goes on wood foundation
Tuesday
June 24, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The owner of this new house has opted for a house without a basement and a wood foundation was placed on the cement footings and the structure is now getting its floor installed.
Which choice in Afghanistan: "real politik" or not?
Tuesday
June 24, 2008
by: Joe Hueglin
Niagara Falls: We have now discovered that the Canadian government was and is very much aware of the Afghan pipeline. Our problem is a serious one, are the Canadians dying and being maimed in this conflict on the other side of the planet making this sacrifice for American oil interests or the global energy interests of India and Pakistan?
Interesting truck
Monday
June 23, 2008
by: Ken Styan
Tisdale: A Tisdale resident has opted for fuel economy and purchased a "tiny truck". Ken Styan got us these pictures of it at the Tisdale Mall and in his story has some neat references to tell about this unusual vehicle.
The Greenwater report
Monday
June 23, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Bismark ND: The jouney continues at the Crawfords visit some bears, tour the South Dakota badlands, enjoy some great camping grounds and visit both the capitals of the Dakotas. This report also has an important notice for all Greenwater Cabin owners.
A conspiracy theory verified? If so?
Monday
June 23, 2008
by: Joe Hueglin
Niagara Falls: This topic has been mentioned as a possible cause of the 9/11 attack, that the US was pushing Afghanistan on building a pipeline and that triggered the attack. Now it is confirmed the war in Afghanistan is to secure the South of the country so it will be safe to build and operate a pipeline over the territory. Canada is now engaged in a commercial war. How do you like that?
