Porcupine Plain: The actions of government are almost always political and rarely based on scientific research or even common sense. The $20 bounty on coyotes is a remarkable example of poorly thought out government action to satisfy a few vocal ranchers. As far as we know there are no sheep ranches in the Porcupine Plain area but there are thousands and thousands of rodents in urgent need of control.

-
Tisdale: This month's meeting brought the club up to date on on going projects and it was time to judge two theme shoots. Dramatic images for "lines" and "mundane". But the club is also proud to share with you Jenny Fritshaw's knock out picture of a coyote eating a frozen crab apple.

Tisdale: Many rural roads are blocked waiting for spring to melt away the winter's snow. But each day is a little longer and soon each day will be a little warmer as February turns to March and we can experience some real storms.

Kamloops: The hype of the Olympics asside, when it comes right down to it the Canadian medal winners demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship and what Canadians are proud of in being Canadian. This story also reports on and refers to an interview that was heard on CBC Radio's Q programme where American broadcaster Brian Williams pretty much puts the negative views of the Vancouver Olympics to bed. The composite image at the top of the page "Figure skating rocks" was created from CTV's live coverage online of the event.

- This is embarrassing

Carrot River: Bad planning, glitches, bad weather and an underlying bad money grubbing attitude seem to be making the Vancouver 2010 Olympics an embarrassment to all Canadians and are giving the country a black eye in the way Canada is being portrayed around the world. The death of the Georgian Luge racer occurred on a dangerous track and the organisers blamed the victim then put up barriers to prevent a reoccurence of the incident. This story includes three excellent references.

Saskatoon: After skipping the last two weeks Gerald explains his hectic schedule has kept him from getting off his weekly column to us all. So this week's report involves an item by item account of what he has been up to as the winter wears on and on.

Tisdale: Ken Styan takes the editor of Ensign to task for his negativity toward the Vancouver Olympics pointing out that after all is said and done it really is for the atheletes themselves to make the event a success. Kevin McIntyre gets his two cents worth in and adds a couple of interesting references that are really worth checcking out.

-
Tisdale: This writer has a distinct lack of enthusiasm for the slipping sliding and rain drenched activities that will be called the Vancouver Olympics. The stories about it are pointless and the games are mostly fixed.

Calgary: The Canadian Prime Minister made a big deal of doing something about the health of women and children at the G7 meeting last week but when it comes to talking about the economy or anything else for that matter there are no women involved.

Regina: Regina is experiencing a serious baby boom with more than thirty new arrivals each and every day. Early Sunday morning our third grand daughter, Ella, was one of them. A small baby of only five and a quarter pounds but a full term infant and a very peaceful one at that. Her mother Dawn and her are expected to leave hospital tomorrow.

Tisdale: Low temperatures and clear skies produce startling images for the photographer and viewer alike. It would seem appropriate to apply this simple principle to other realms to get to the core and delve into the real issues that confront us as a people and as citizens of a nation.

Tisdale: This company has been a major player in the agricultural industry in Tisdale and during this past year has been making a gradual move from its old elevator facility to a new layout in the former Newform Packaging plant that at one time served as the Tisdale Recorder's printing plant and a honey storage facility before that. The transformation of the facility is documented in this story.

Tisdale: The sign of success is being able to adapt to changing markets and conditions. Shawn Doherty's latest move is from its former location to downtown as it continues to grow and needs more space to show its products and service its customers.

Tisdale: Throughout Saskatchewan strange snow shapes have developed on anything on the leaside of the North wind that brought the heavy snow this past weekend. Cars, pickups, trees and just about anything else can be swallowed up by these formations that take an unusual form of their shaped by the movement of the winds that deposited the snow.

The highlight of the club's activities for this month was doing presentations to the various senior citizens homes here in Tisdale.

Tisdale: The school buses ran today for Tisdale's schools and almost all of the streets in the community are passable but that is not the case with the country roads. The cleanup is going quite well but a steady drifting wind blew all day from the west causing problems for north and south country roads.

Tisdale: The storm that enveloped all of southern and central Saskatchewan left a good deal of snow behind it the most we have seen dumped in Tisdale in the past 15 years. This however, the part of January when such storms are common and no one was particularily surprised other then for once Environment Canada actually got this one right.
