Bike safety week
Thursday
May 15, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Just like the first few weeks of winter when we all have to learn to drive again each spring those on two wheels, adults and children alike have to learn all over again that being on a bicycle can be a truly dangerous thing unless you follow the rules of the road. Today's picture was not staged that's what Tisdale drivers have to cope with and it is only a matter of time until a cyclist becomes a statistic.

Kevin's find of the day

Jaipur toll touches 80
On Tuesday in Jaipur a group calling themselves the Indian Mujahdeen set off eight bombs killing 80 people and injuring 200. This report is from the Bangalore, Deccan Herald and details the progress in tracking down the bombers. Other stories indicate this was to hit tourists and discourage India from support of the US.

Happenings In Tisdale:

On top of the world
Wednesday
May 14, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Louis Dreyfus Tisdale Terminal is cleaning up the huge pile of barley from last fall's harvest and one has to think about the value of that stuff in terms of world commodities.
Harper's proposed militarization of Canada
Wednesday
May 14, 2008
by: Caspar Davis
Victoria B.C.: In an effort to garner increased favour in Washington it appears as though the Prime Minister is bent on making Canada over into a USA/North with similar levels of military spending and the emphasis on might is right on the world stage.
Canada First on errands of mercy?
Wednesday
May 14, 2008
by: Eugene Parks
Victoria B.C.: The Prime Minister has essentially dedicated Canadian military efforts to war and more war. Hardly the sort of thing Canadians have been or continue to be proud of, especially when we have the world wide reputation as a peace keeping and humanitarian aid providing country.
"Canada First" not placing Canada first
Wednesday
May 14, 2008
by: Joe Hueglin
Niagara Falls Ontario: The Prime Minister pronouncement on national defence is simply not in the national interest. If Canada is first in our defence spending we would put money into search and rescue equipment and survailence aircraft with tough ice breakers to patrol our arctic waterways. None of these elements were mentioned in his speech in Halifax.
House eight well underway
Tuesday
May 13, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Farber Contracting got the walls of the basement up today for a new house on the north side of Forester Crescent as the 2008 crop of dwellings continues to grow every day.
The Greenwater report
Monday
May 12, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Saskatoon: the ice came off Greenwater Lake May 8th as Gerald catches us up on some of the things out at the park. Time to get the motor home ready and out for another season.
The new Tattered Corners
Friday
May 9, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Tisdale has a full fledged book store as Tattered Corners has re-opened in the Tisdale mall with both new and used books, an Internet Cafe, coffee, magazines and an outstanding setting.
Gifts and Gadgets moves downtown
Thursday
May 8, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Putting this year's crop in the cold fields is in full swing in the Tisdale area with a surprising large amount of the fields already planted.

Louis Dreyfus begins the task of shipping mammoth wheat pile
Tueday
May 6, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Part of the huge pile of grain was exposed by a vicious wind some weeks ago and it must have seemed like a good idea to start shipping the wheat to market.
The Greenwater report
Monday
May 5, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Carstairs Alberta: The Crawfords have dashed out to the open country of southern Alberta but in fact they have gone to the dogs.
House six gets footings poured today
Friday
May 2, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Serious work began on this lot last Thursday when the water and sewer services were installed then a week ago today the basement was prepared.
Christ Lutheran Church Rummage sale
Friday
May 2, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Most years the Lutheran sale is a week later in the spring but this year it comes this first weekend in May. This is an interesting sale with several remarkable finds.
St. Matthew's spring sale
Thursday
May 1, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The most assuring sign of spring is St. Matthew's Anglican Church spring rummage sale that got underway today with a crowd there for the opening at 9:00 and the sale goes on until noon Saturday. The clothing available and quality is huge.
Spring work
Thursday
May 1, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The ritual of getting the fields ready to plant with this year's crop has really changed over the years and today we look at some of the process as farmers have been itching to get the 2008 crop in the ground.
Turkey Vulture , Cathartes aura
Wednesday
April 30, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire, Images by Darlene Shire
Archerwill: Only slightly smaller than a bald eagle this carrion feeding aviator is most often sighted in flight where it glides in circles with the tips of its wings raised in a dihedral. Most of us have seen one thinking it was some kind of hawk but Darlene Shire photographed this one Saturday morning north of Archerwill.
Sandhill Cranes, Grus canadensis
Tuesday
April 29, 2008
by: Timothy W. Shire, Images by Darlene Shire
Archerwill: With wing spran of between six and seven feet and their distinctive red heads the Sandhill Crane is easy to spot and identify. Though they can go to the Arctic coast to nest many make their homes across the prairies during the summer. This flock are northerners just taking a break.

April 28, 2008
by: Gerald Crawford
Saskatoon:Gerald tells about the first signs of real spring, rummage sales and it is clear he is starting to get itchy feet. This week he sends us along the Saskatchewan River to the weir to see some pelicans.
Cover up is what brings down politicians
Monday
April 28, 2008
by: Eugene Parks
Victoria B.C.:The money laundering scam of the Conservative Party in the last election is truly a serious matter. Canadians are serious about their democracy and when schemes are cooked up to break the rules there should be series permanent consequences. Interesting to note that the Esquimalt - Juan de fuca candidate is one of British Columbia's most prominent lawyers.

by: Darlene McCullough
