Tim's Tip of the Day

It took four hours for CBC to television sixty minute of football yesterday. One has to wonder that perhaps instead of paying for television those advertisers owe us to sit through a three to one entertainment to commercial ratio. At some point viewers will turn off the commercials and play cards.

Kevin's find of the day

County sells woman's farm over $572 bill. (PDF) This remarkable Penn. story by Diana Stricker in the The Patriot-News relates how an elderly lady had her $800,000 property sold from under her for a tax notice she paid and the county would accept her check really caught the eye of the public and when lawyers were involved the buyer of the house gave it back and his $15,000 was returned and Helene Shue still has her home and acreage.

Ensign Notes

This web site is visited by a significant number of people every day. If you have something you think people should know, or know about send along your story to me. There are several things we need with each submission:

  • Your real name and location,
  • Though pictures are preferred to accompany and make a story interesting if you have no images available we will add images and
  • where ever possible give references to support or validate your story.

Grey Cup Parade
Monday
November 17, 2003
by: R. W. Shire
Regina: Here are fifteen pictures of Saturday's Grey Cup parade as they made the turn from 12th Ave. onto Albert.

A World of Hypocrisy: Bush's Lies and U.S. Crony Capitalism
Friday
November 14, 2003
by: Mario deSantis
Nipawin: There is a climate that is arising and even though we share in the pride of the high thoughts of our former and new Prime Minister they come in the light of the sad betrayal of Maher Arar and William Samson. It is this divergence of reality that confounds us and Mario really only hints at the widening gap between what is really happening and what we are being told. The United States has created a mess and is about to make more mess by abandoning the country they destroyed over the lies they have told. Similarly their economy is crumbling while we are told they are recovering. This short story has some powerful references that give the exploring reader a chance to see more clearly what is indeed happening.

Country Gifts and Crafts 2003
Thursday
November 13, 2003
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Open at 4:00 today and the sale going on tomorrow and Saturday once again the shopping season begins with this remarkable display of art and craft products.

Small business is big business in small town Saskatchewan
Wednesday
November 12, 2003
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: The success of a rural community does not only depend upon the primary industry which for most of Saskatchewan is agriculture, but it depends upon diversification with small business shouldering the responsibility for a pluralistic economy.

Differing Policy Directions
Wednesday
November 12, 2003
by: Brian Marlatt
White Rock B.C.: With Progressive Conservatives actually protesting the merger of the two political parties in Vancouver today we find out in this short but to the point comparison of Progressive Conservative and Canadian Alliance policies which essentially are completely opposite to one another.

Golburn
Tuesday
November 11, 2003
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Once every road allowance, one mile apart East and West and every two miles North and South was actually a road but with the consolidation of farms many roads have once again become fields. While following some roads today we came upon a village that was like these over grown road allowances, a community that once was. This story includes a QuickTime Virtual Reality panorama of the area near the Golburn School and fairgrounds site.

They Served
Monday
November 10, 2003
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: They went to war some have gone to make peace but one way or another they have placed the needs of the country and the people of this country above their own survival. Some died doing their duty and others have lived on since their conflict but their lives have changed and their service has made a difference for each of us.

The Greenwater report
Monday
November 10, 2003
by: Gerald Crawford
Greenwater Provincial Park: The lake has froze over and George Renneberg pulled out three jack through the ice but Gerald has survived the disappointments of the election and last night's game.

Two flies go to A&W first Anniversary
Friday
November 7. 2003
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale: Bright sunlight poured into the little Tisdale A&W today as it celebrated its first anniversary. This business has certainly made its mark on the community and continues to develop its local roots.

The latest on Bush's economic exports: war and democracy
Friday
November 7, 2003
by: Mario deSantis
Nipawin: Congress and Senate have approved the $87.5 billion in funds to rebuild Iraq as American corporations harvest the profits from the process and the US president is now talking as though he wants to do the same thing for China.

Progressive Conservatives call for democratic vote
Thursday
November 6, 2003
by: John Herron
Ottawa:
The vote to merge the Progressive Conservative party with the Canadian Alliance appears not to be so universally accepted as the advertisements might suggest. This press release indicates a deep and serious rift within Tory ranks.
