- Robin

- Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Though
Robins have been comfortably living in much of Saskatchewan for up to a month they
have stayed away from Tisdale until Sunday morning when one dropped by our house
and I was able to take his picture a few doors down. This story includes a QuickTime
rendition of a song by the "world's greatest entertainer."

Tim's Tip of the Day
|
It is good to see planning and preparation come together as an idea moves
from just that to something real and tangible. For many real accomplishment can be
any of the various phases along the way and they are quite satisfied with just making
progress. |
Kevin's find of the day
|
Oregon prisoners get flat-screen
TVs (pdf) This story that appeared on CNN reports on an innovative
programme to reward prisoners for good behaviour with small 7in. TVs for use in their
cells. Though it seems like a luxury it really turns out to be an outstanding idea
at providing and means of rehabilitating offenders. |
Ensign Notes
|
Great variety of contributions today from Crooked River, Swift Current and Regina.
Minor illness has interferred with production and today's stories will not get posted
until tomorrow. |

- Al
Jolson
- Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Michael
Jackson, Elvis Prestley, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby all are just pale imitations
of the very first superstar Al Jolson. When records, radio, movies and television
were invented he was there front and centre and he was well aware of his position
in history as he turned to the camera in the first motion picture with sound and
ad-libed "You aint heard nothin' yet."

rather unpleasant weather. Gerald gives us a look at some astonishing signs of the
growing desert near Rosetown.

- Democracy is neither scientific polling
nor privatisation, and we don’t need to compare apples with apples
- Friday
April 30, 2004
by : Mario deSantis
Nipawin : The role of the citizen seems to be increasingly
confusing as we get sucked into discussions that seem to rely upon pseudo-scientific
polling while at the same time matters of serious and importance to us all are fluffed
over as high salaried officials cut vital programmes or the fundamental right to
medical care is undermined by political and power struggle conditions in the country.

- Count Me Out! Boycott the Canadian Census Test!
- Thursday
April 29, 2004
by : Mel Hurtig
Edmonton : As
if having Disney own the rights to the RCMP wasn't enough Ottawa has farmed out the
2006 Census to Lockheed Martin. don't you think you should be concerned about this?
Lockheed Martin's motto is "We never forget who we're working for"

Shower, snow
- Wednesday
April 28, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Thanks
we needed that, last night we had a gentile shower (rain shower) that dribbled water
on the town and fields around us but during the night it turned to snow so that this
morning we all awoke to a white world once more.

|
- Boreal Owl
- Wednesday
April 28, 2004
by : Lorna McEwan
Tisdale : Though they may be around we rarely get a
peek at the small owls. This species is actually smaller than the little burrowing
owl of the plains but can range all across western Canada along the tree line and
into the Yukon.

- Quennell’s Saskatchewan
Justice: a system stuck in the seventies
- Wednesday
April 28, 2004
by : Mario deSantis
Nipawin : The Saskatchewan Justice minister and the
minister in charge of social services decided to send a letter from the both of them
to the Saskatoon Star Phoenix in an effort to correct what they felt were inaccuracies
in a story. Many wonder if their published opinions may have influenced the outcome
of an ongoing court procedure.

In their time they were both the centre of every household kitchen, the house's source
of heat and a
full time job just to keep them working, as seen at auction sale today.
