HomeComing 2005
- Friday
May 7, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : When
it comes to planning a vacation that involves not just the whole family but the whole
community one has to think ahead. The Centennial Homecoming committee have the basic
concept laid out for July 29 to August 1 and here are some details.

- Bush’s slippery slope: preemptive wars, violations of international law
- Friday
May 7, 2004
by : Mario deSantis
Nipawin : There
is no feeling of victory in saying "we told you so" as you have read repeatedly
on this site about privatisation and the misuse of language. Torture is now
defined as "abuse" and one in every ten Americans in Iraq carrying
a gun, is a mercanary, there are more of them than British soldiers. Sadly, this
tragic and for want of a better term, "stupid" situation, must play out
as the United States has plodded its way while being warned, into a point of no return
and they have no exit plan.

Tim's Tip of the Day
|
Though the speed limit is 40K at the north entrance to Tisdale on #35
semi traffic rarely slows to town street speeds until south of Wicks. At the
speed this vehicle is traveling and loaded in this manner it would take more than
a block to come to a complete stop. |
Kevin's find of the day

Oregon prisoners get flat-screen
TVs (pdf) This story that appeared on CNN reports on an innovative
programme to reward prisoners for good behaviour with small 7in. TVs for use in their
cells. Though it seems like a luxury it really turns out to be an outstanding idea
at providing and means of rehabilitating offenders. |

This is a hacker story as the author goes about creating a computer to try things
out. With spam and worms ravaging computers today we need very badly to explore these
weapons of mass computer destruction in an effort to protect our equipment. What
will be done with this computer you wouldn't want to do with a machine you depend
upon for everyday work.

- Robin
waits for May to show up in Tisdale
- Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Though
Robins have been comfortably living in much of Saskatchewan for up to a month they
have stayed away from Tisdale until Sunday morning when one dropped by our house
and I was able to take his picture a few doors down. This story includes a QuickTime
rendition of a song by the "world's greatest entertainer."

- Al
Jolson
- Monday
May 3, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Michael
Jackson, Elvis Prestley, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby all are just pale imitations
of the very first superstar Al Jolson. When records, radio, movies and television
were invented he was there front and centre and he was well aware of his position
in history as he turned to the camera in the first motion picture with sound and
ad-libed "You aint heard nothin' yet."
