Supreme Court of Canada once it listened to the tobacco companies' arguments on hiding
tobacco products from view in Saskatchewan stores ruled in favour of the Saskatchewan
Government overturning a lower court's decision to overturn the Saskatchewan cover
up regulations.

Carrot River
: After thinking about the story on "change not decline" Kevin had some
important things to contribute both from his persective and from the way rural Saskatchewan
is just a former place.

Tim's Tip of the Day
|
Be it frozen, as a gas, flowing in a
stream or seeping out of our pores, water is the stuff of life. It is contaminated,
can be cleaned and is often referred to as the universal solvent. Water is the key
element in every community, its quality and abundance determine prosperity and the
quality of life to be had there. |
Kevin's
find of the day
|
One in five
Scots has blood tie to ancient Iraq This story
originally appeared in the Scotsman but was distributed by Yahoo News.
Genetic testing has shown that the people of Scotland and of Assyria (iraq) have
common ancestors. This casts doubt on some of the more conventional beliefs about
the origins of the people who came to the British Isles after the last ice age. |

- Friday
January 21, 2005
by : Joe Hueglin
Niagara Falls Ontario
: This is a story that simply won't go away as the PM is asked about it in India
by their prime minister and today Mr. Martin showed his contempt for the Opposition
leader when he spoke at a press conference in China and said that he and his government
stand on the Charter and minority rights and would go to an election if need be on
that issue.

- Education
and the church
- Friday
January 21, 2005
by : Edwin Wallace
Success : Public
education was developed not to better the intellect of students but to support a
democratic form of government. Democracy is meaningless if the voter is not able
to be informed and able to reason so schools came into being. The Jesuits had this
figured out centuries before and the battle for the minds of children continues.
Edwin wants assimilation.

day will come
- Thursday
January 20, 2005
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : This
photo essay shows the ghastly beauty of winter and reflects on the ever present optomism
that often blinds us to appreciating things just as they are. This story includes
KD Lang's version of this outstanding classic song. (QuickTime required)

by : Mario deSantis
Prince Albert
: If there was ever a need for proof that the country to the south of us is sinking
into the past, the head of one of their most elevated universities demonstrated an
attitude toward woman that is insulting to half the people on this planet.

- Unimog
- Wednesday
January 19, 2005
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : When it comes to off road trucks the leadership in that field is not made
in North America. The best and most successful is built by Benz and is called the
Unimog.

- Change
not decline
- Monday
January 17, 2005
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : Zellers
closed in Tisdale last September and its huge story in Swift Current closes in February,
they actually will be knocking down the building on the east end of the Swift Current
Mall. Retail in North America is having problems, K-Mart, Zellers, Target, Hudson's
Bay, all are closing outlets trying to find a way to stay in business and SAAN was
purchased by a hack and chop outfit that buys up businesses and then reduces them
to their parts to recover its investment. This is not a retail decline it is a retail
change.
(warning: this is not a brief article)

- Van quest
- Sunday
January 16, 2005
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : There
is sort of mystery to the function and operation of mechenical devices and since
the play such a vital and seemingly important role in the lives of us all just getting
along from one day to another can be a test, a kind of quest for each and every owner.
|
- Arctic
quest
- Friday

Tisdale : The
west wind is a demon, overwhelming in its power, curel and unrelenting. Only avoidance
and the approach of spring can dampen its affects.

- Mac
Mini just another piece in the revolution or evolutionary puzzle
- Wednesday
January 12, 2004
by : Timothy W. shire
Tisdale : The
information age, the electronic age, the age of automation all terms that suggest
that we are living in a time when things have changed. They have but we aren't there
yet as each critical part of the whole picture is coming into focus. As you are reading
this on a computer screen you are yourself part of that revolution and it is a complex
combination of hardware, software and user acceptance and capability.

- Yorkton
Harvest start the new year with 4 - 1 win over the Tisdale Trojans
- Friday
January 7, 2004
by: Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : For
the last ten minutes of play Yorkton barely touched the puck as the Trojans tried
to get back into a game they had lost in the first two periods. Great effort but
no cigar. The stands were full of loyal fans and though their team lost it was a
thriller right to the last second.

- Winter
City
- Thursday
January 6, 2005
by: Timothy W. Shire
Regina : Regina's
hardy residents are attempting to handle the challenge of winter pretty well as they
have had a bit of snow between Christmas and New Years and then to start the New
Year some crisp temperatures. Today they have temperatures in the teens and are likely
to become confused.

some very confused conclusions. This story attempts to point out some fo those issues.

by : Timothy W. Shire
Swift Current
: At seven thirty Monday, January 3rd this little girl arrived in Swift Current's
hospital making her the first baby of the new year for this southwest Saskatchewan
city. The next day three more babies were born as families celebrate each new arrival
and all of us can look forward to the days, weeks and years to come.

- 2005
as it looks from here
- Wednesday
December 29, 2004

Tisdale : The
tradition continues of taking time at the end of the year to look both forward and
back and reflect upon what may be expected.

- "May
your days be merry and bright and may all your Christmases by white"
- Friday
December 24, 2004
by : Timothy W. Shire
Tisdale : With snow falling and the temperature a seasonal -23ºC Tisdale experienced
a perfect Christmas eve. For us in this part of Canada every Christmas is a white
one but we can easily identify with the nostolga felt for Christmases past.
